Dick Hamilton was born in Canada and raised in the United
States. He attended Haverford College in Philadelphia, one of the
premier small colleges in America. He received his Juris Doctor
degree from the University of Pennsylvania (cum laude) in 1971. He
was admitted to the British Columbia bar in 1972 and was appointed Queen's
Counsel in 1999.
Dick is responsible for some of the leading cases in
employment law in British Columbia (see below). He has appeared at
every level of court and is a frequent lecturer at Continuing Legal
Education.
Dick
is an avid cyclist and triathlete. In his 50's he has successfully
completed the prestigious Ironman
Canada endurance race and the Escape
from Alcatraz and Deathride.
Dick Hamilton has won more
employment cases than any other lawyer in B.C. including:
-
winning more cases
at trial
-
upheld more cases
on appeal
-
of cases lost, reversed more cases
on appeal and
-
on a percentage basis, lost fewer cases than any other
lawyer in B.C.
Dick also acts as a mediator on employment cases only. His long experience in this field
and his approach to mediation makes him an excellent
choice for lawyers who want their cases SETTLED. He gets to the point and has a
reputation for forceful persuasion AND "calling it like it is"
in order to get the case resolved.
Dick frequently writes and lectures for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia. He was also
featured in the November 2001 issue of the BC Business Magazine.
